The annual H3 Soccer Tournament takes place in Kahe Village, which is an area of extreme poverty and one of the poorest villages in Tanzania. It’s located close to Moshi, Tanzania, a larger well-known city.

The flagship program of Hearts and Hands for Humanity is to drill clean water wells using a custom-designed human-powered drill. The well sites are strategically placed to provide the maximum possible benefit for the communities they serve. Sometimes they are drilled at a school, which allows the students, especially young girls, to attend the school instead of being out fetching water all day. Sometimes they are drilled at a farm to help provide crops for the community. Sometimes they are drilled at an orphanage or to help another nonprofit already in place.

Hearts and Hands for Humanity has drilled over 50 clean water wells to help the Kahe Village community. After drilling some of these wells we’ve received some of the following comments from prominent individuals in the community:

A lot of the guidance we recieved for the well sites was from a member of our very-own drill team, Abdul, who is from Kahe. He explained to us that if we drilled a well next to the village soccer field (or “football pitch”), and included a water tank, then they could water the field and grow grass in addition to providing clean water to the nearby residents. One of the immediate benefits of this was to prevent injuries from playing on a dirt field, but the overall benefit is that having a constructive method of wholesome recreation has had a major positive impact on this community. It helps keep youth, boys and girls, out of trouble and it brings the entire community together.

This lead to having the first soccer tournament in 2021, which was such a great success that we decided to do it again. The entire community comes to the soccer field to watch and support these youth teams, and it gives the youth an event in their lives to look forward to and which builds their confidence and self-esteem.

Drilling that initial well has now evolved into a near-annual soccer tournament with participants from mutiple well sites, schools, and organized teams from throughout Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. The tournament will usually have 18-20 local teams with 2-3 international teams if funds can be raised to transport them by bus to the area.

Every year that the tournament is held, it helps lift the economy and morale of Kahe village and all those who participate.

For every tournament our goal is to raise $15,000 to cover tournament expenses for all 18-22 teams. Donations of any amount are graciously accepted, though sponsors would receive special recognition, including multiple mentions on this website, mentions on H3 social media, sponsor logos on team jerseys, and on printed banners at the actual event.

Hearts and Hands for Humanity is seeking organized teams in the United States who would be willing to play exhibition matches with the championship teams of the annual H3 Soccer tournament. Many of the players on these teams could very well be fierce college competitors and it could benefit both the colleges and the players for them to get together. At the very least, an exhibition match between an organized team in the US and a team who rose from the slums of Africa would be a boone to public relations.
