Primary School Lunches For Children in Africa

Providing Lunches For Primary School Children in Africa
In addition to providing clean water wells in Africa, Hearts and Hands for Humanity will try to maximize the services provided and the number of lives blessed which each and every trip to Africa. When we travel to Africa to dig a new well, it is often with a group of donors who have opted to go on a Humanitarian Safari with us. These trips will usually include at least one day where we visit a primary school (similar to an elementary school in the USA) and feed them lunch. It is usually the same school where we are digging a well.
Just the act of digging the well at their school will have a tremendous impact on their lives moving forward and it changes their entire community. Yet, when digging these wells we often saw that many of these children are not just in need of life-saving water, they are also hungry. Most of them live in extreme poverty, and it can be heart-breaking to see how hungry some of them are. When providing them with these lunches the joy we see in these children’s faces is priceless.
The lunches often include sandwiches, beans, bananas, a corn-based dish called “Ugali” or “Pap”, and a toy. The primary schools that we visit will usually have around 300 students or more.
Serving primary school lunches is one of a few humanitarian actities provided during the trips to eastern Africa. Another common activity is Delivering Feminine Hygiene Kits. Others might include planting trees, tending gardens, painting a school, and more.
